Sit-Start Calls to Know
Among the week's trickiest calls: Isaiah Papali'i (66.7 projection) is a genuine play against Parramatta but carries minutes risk; Fletcher Sharpe continues to be undervalued by the model, averaging 66.6 since Round 9; and Terrell May and Payne Haas remain automatic front-row locks despite recent dips. Keaon Koloamatangi is shaping as an easy sit if he's forced to the edge with Cam Murray and David Fifita sidelined, while Simi Sasagi was tipped as a strong buy given Canberra's lack of right-edge attacking structure.
Trusting the Ballr Projections (with a grain of gut instinct)
The trio dived deep into the Ballr Projections and their limitations, particularly in assessing volatile players such as Reece Walsh, sitting on a 73-point projection this week despite exploding for 106 with three try assists last round.
Matt stressed that projections are median scores: consistent "can't-hurt-you" plays like Ryan Couchman cluster tightly around their number, while high-ceiling types like Walsh carry a much wider score range, making matchup and role context essential alongside the data.
The Reece Walsh vs James Tedesco Debate
The fullback conversation dominated, with Walsh (26% traded in by the top 10%) now outpacing James Tedesco (8.5%) in ownership.
Walsh's newly acquired potential goalkicking duties add long-term captaincy upside, but the panel favoured Tedesco's reliability if trades are tight.
Holding Sualauvi Faalogo and buying Keano Kini or Scott Drinkwater also featured as fullback POD options.
Three-Halfback Strategy and Captaincy
With Tommy Turbo sidelined, the "three-halfback" strategy (rotating Nathan Cleary, Nicho Hynes and a third half through the flex) got fresh legs, with Jayden Campbell and Te Maire Martin floated as replacements.
For captaincy, Cleary and Nicho Hynes remain the safest doubles, while Reece Walsh and Haumole Olakau'atu offer higher-ceiling alternatives.
