Round 24 of the NRL SuperCoach season brings a lighter trade week after a quiet Round 23, and host Jono was joined on the Ballr NRL SuperCoach Podcast by supercoaches Dan (The Casa Bonitas) of a huge 1550 and Cracker (Toia Story) to break down the Round 24 Team List Tuesday.
Ballr Blueprint: POD Plays for the Run Home
This week's Ballr Blueprint targeted low-ownership POD (point of difference) plays capable of separating teams down the stretch.
Dan backed Hamish Stewart after a run of eight scores over 70 and a juicy run-home draw, plus Adam Doueihi (Wests Tigers) as an accumulator with a 31% chance of a ton this week -the third-best figure in SuperCoach according to the Ballr rankings tool.
Cracker pushed Leka Halasima (2.2% owned, 86.5 average across his last two games) and Robert Toia (2.9% owned, five-round base-plus-power average of 52) as high-upside, low-ownership options.
Jono rounded it out with Selwyn Cobbo (Dolphins, 0.9% owned, no scores under 50 since Round 9, 81.3 average) as part of a Dolphins left-edge stack alongside Herbie Farnworth, plus Alex Johnston (Rabbitohs, 1.3% owned, 78.5 average, only three sub-50 scores all year).
Captaincy and VC Loop Options
Per Ballr projections, Nicho Hynes leads the pack at 98.4 with a 42% chance of a ton, ahead of Ryan Couchman (90.5, 30%), Kalyn Ponga (89.6, 32%) and Adam Doueihi (88.3, 31%), while Nathan Cleary (81.4, 24%) was way down in 11th with a tougher match-up.
The panel also flagged a hooker VC loop opportunity around the Storm's bye, with Harry Grant owners able to captain him right up until the end of the round to activate the loop.
Sit or Start: The Tricky Calls
With squads deep this late in the season, several stars copped a sit recommendation: Mark Nawaqanitawase (poor recent form), Tom Chester and Xavier Willison are all on the chopping block, while a tough call might need to be made on Titans playmaker Jayden Campbell against the Knights.
Clear plays included Fletcher Sharpe, Greg Marzhew with Bradman Best back, and Sharks stack Ronaldo Mulitalo and KL Iro against the Raiders.
Ryan Couchman was labelled an easy lock-and-load, while Terrell May versus Alex Twal was dubbed the week's most agonising front row call.
Elsewhere, Simi Sasagi (Raiders) and Te Maire Martin (Warriors) remain hold decisions for coaches low on trades, with the Round 27 bye looming large over several run-home strategies.
