NRL SuperCoach Sunday Snap: NRL Round 25 Recap | Ballr

The Ballr NRL SuperCoach Podcast crew were back for another Sunday Snap, unpacking every SuperCoach talking point from Round 25.

Host Jono (Hungry Fermor) posted a solid 1458, but it was co-host CMac (CMac's Shark Attack) who eclipsed him with 1505, putting four prelim wins in the bank and giving himself a top-100 chance.

Round highlights and lowlights

The round's headline SuperCoach story was Alex Johnston's try-scoring surge. The Rabbitohs winger piled on 121 points, two tries among five line breaks, to equal Tom Jenkins for the competition's top try-scorer this NRL season.

Both hosts flagged Johnston as a serious buy given his rock-bottom ownership relative to output, with a kind Titans-Roosters run ahead.

The Storm-Panthers clash was Round 25's strangest: Nathan Cleary banked 85 despite a 71-at-halftime stall, while bench-turned-starter Tyran Wishart stunned with 116 points and a huge 73 in base stats.

Herbie Farnworth was the standout of the round overall, exploding for 155 points including two tries and a length-of-the-field intercept try that both hosts called a contender for the greatest junk score in SuperCoach history.

Payne Haas answered his critics in style, running for 110 points against the Raiders after copping outside criticism pre-game, while Simi Sasagi produced 113 points despite carrying a shoulder injury, with coach Ricky Stuart leaving the door open for him to return in Round 27.

The round capped off with a genuine SuperCoach shock, Roosters halfback Sam Walker racking up 132 points, a try and four line assists, even as his side went down to the Wests Tigers in a major upset.

Elsewhere, usually-reliable Sea Eagles forward Haumole Olakau'atu had a rare off day, managing just 64 points, while Dolphins development back-rower Brian Pouniu impressed as a Ready to Explode candidate in only his second NRL appearance and was flagged as a potential cheap filler option for the run home.

Rage trades

Rage trades dominated the mailbag, none bigger than Kalyn Ponga. A quiet 34 has both hosts circling a move to in-form Scott Drinkwater, who gets a favourable Tigers matchup in Townsville.

Viliame Kikau also copped it after another underwhelming 63-minute outing, while the Bulldogs' inconsistent utility back continues to frustrate SuperCoach owners chasing certainty.

Looking ahead to Round 26, both hosts are circling the same move: Ponga out, Drinkwater in, as they push for a strong finish to the season.
