Ballr NRL SuperCoach Round 16 Team List Tuesday podcast:
Jono, Matt and Dan dissect the big NRL SuperCoach issues heading into Round 16 of the NRL season.
The Ballr NRL SuperCoach podcast returned for the latest Team List Tuesday takeaways with their own full team, breaking down every position ahead of a massive week of Origin-disrupted footy and strategy around 'nuffs'.
For those not in the know, a nuff is a player who is bargain basement price who will never likely be a scorer in your team - a useful strategy for clearing the deadwood and making sure you fill your final squad with premiums.
How Many Nuffs for the Run Home?
The crew opened with a listener question from the Ballrs Only Discord: How many nuffs should you carry into the run home?
The Rix boys aligned on their opinion, citing the best cash-generation season in recent memory.
With that extra cash on hand, elite players are more reachable without burning extra roster spots on nuffs.
Both identified FRF/2RF dual Myles Martin and CTW/2RF dual James Walsh as the ideal nuff profiles.
One key risk to watch is the Newcastle Knights have a Round 27 bye, which could sting coaches carrying multiple Knights late in the season.
The Week's Biggest Trade Calls
Haumole Olakau'atu (Sea Eagles, 2RF, $784K) 4-round projection avg: 95.5
The must-have trade-out target this week is Kai Pearce-Paul (Knights), confirmed for season-ending surgery on a ruptured pec.
The panel's unanimous number-one replacement is Haumole Olakau'atu. He's the highest projected second-rower for the remainder of the season according to ballr.live, missed State of Origin selection (which the boys believe gives him a point to prove), and faces the Bulldogs this week before a dream run home.
Origin risk is non-trivial — if NSW lose Game II, he's a chance to come in — but the panel agreed the upside far outweighs the concern.
Fletcher Sharpe (Knights, FLB-5/8) - $589K | Dan's buy of the week
With Kalyn Ponga almost certain to rest after Origin, Fletcher Sharpe is the sleeper play of the round.
Danny Boy's bold call: Sharpe starts at fullback against the Dragons on Friday night and could "go berserk."
He's only 0.5% owned in the top 10% and is coming off a knee injury that appears to be well behind him.
Thomas Jenkins (Panthers, CTW) – $701K | Matt's CTW buy of the week
Matt Rix put Jenkins at the top of the list for CTW trade-in options this week, owing to his 20 tries scored this season outstanding draw to come, featuring the Titans, Cowboys, bye, Rabbitohs, Broncos, Eels and he plays Round 18.
The only concern is Casey McLean's injury, with Izack Tago potentially shifting inside him for up to a month.
Hudson Young (Raiders, 2RF) – $794K
Flagged as a massive POD move, particularly for those who want to get ahead of the crowd before post-Origin buying frenzy.
Young is essentially guaranteed to play each week, with the Raiders needing wins to keep finals hopes alive, and the Dragons at home in Round 17 is a mouthwatering matchup.
Origin & Captaincy Watch
With Origin II in Melbourne, the panel's preferred VC option is Kalyn Ponga (Knights v Dragons, Friday night) — but only if he backs up. If Ponga rests, Fletcher Sharpe at fullback is the pivot.
Danny Boy's captain of the week: Herbie Farnworth (Dolphins). Playing at home against the Tigers' injury-ravaged right edge, the panel love his ceiling in this matchup. Nathan Cleary is tempting if he backs up but may be managed for minutes.
Tom Trbojevic is the wildcard — Matt Rix was talking himself into buying Turbo this week.
